Style Me March: {Wrap Up}

I can't believe today is the last day of March! Where has the time gone? I have to say, April will be a doozy with the semester wrapping up but I will be glad to see it come and go because May means the end of my first semester as a PhD student and the start of summer. While I will still be fulfilling the duties of a graduate researcher all summer, I can breathe a sigh of relief when my classes end.

Needless to say, after spring break, both my coursework and my research responsibilities, really picked up in intensity and load. Therefore, the Style Me March challenge really dropped off after the middle of the month. I did the best I could but honestly, the last thing on my mind was what "theme" I was supposed to be focusing my outfit around each day. My main priority was gathering data and information for presentations and term papers! Oh the joys of academics sometimes!

I will say, after doing the Closet Remix Challenge in February and participating in the Style Me March challenge this month, I am looking forward to a month of freedom for April. I have a couple of ideas for inspiration I may draw on from Pinterest, but I am not committing myself to any challenge this month. I may participate in Style Me April if I find the time, but it won't be a weekly post here on the blog. I already know just from looking at my planner that it is NOT feasible.

I do hope to snap a few more outfit posts on the weekends (if I get out of my sweats and away from writing papers long enough)!

Therefore, the recap of Style Me March below is really strong on the front end, not so much on the back end. And I apologize, but I did the best I could. In a perfect world there would be an unlimited amount of time and energy in a day. Thankfully, we don't live in a perfect world!

Camo & Floral

Pants: {old, JC Penney, similar} Sweatshirt: {new, but couldn't find link online, love this and this} Necklace: {Bijou Brigette, Spain} Bag: {Mango, Spain} Flats: {Marshall's, old} Bracelets: {Bijoux Boutique}

I'm loving this girly/tomboy combo! The camo and sweatshirt have a tomboyish edge while the flirty floral pattern and leopard bow flats are girly to a tee.

This was a great outfit for running errands and grabbing a late lunch this past Saturday!

What do you love to run errands in? I always feel better if I'm pulled together and feel chic!

Style Me March {Week 3}

Happy Monday!

First, I want to apologize for my lack of posts last week and the lack of outfits in this post.

A couple of weeks ago, I totaled my car. Thankfully, everyone was okay, other than some minor whiplash I had, and the accident was not my fault. My trusty first car since I was 16 however, was not!

My car was totaled and a few days later I started the search for a new vehicle. For a few years, since the new model came out, I had had my eyes on a Pearl White Toyota 4Runner. I had planned to get through my PhD and then purchase my "dream vehicle" when I had driven the wheels off my Altima. But, our plans are not always God's plans. I am thankful we were able to purchase the vehicle we really wanted now.

All of that to say, sorry but I've been a little preoccupied. The hassle of purchasing a new vehicle, finishing communications with the insurance and starting a new insurance policy, not to mention changing everything over from the state of KY to NC! Whew! And oh yeah, I'm still a full-time student and research assistant.

To be honest, I'm not sure how much posting I will get to do in the next few weeks. There are 5 weeks left in the semester which include too many assignments to count, 2 literature reviews, a 6 day trip to England for a conference, and a rigorous week of final exams.

Without further ado, the (few) outfits from Style Me March, Week 3:

Favorite Pins Friday: Palazzo Pants

Yay! It's finally Friday, but I have to be honest, this week flew by for me.

Dealing with the aftermath of my car accident, my car being totaled, and starting the process of looking for a new car took up every single evening our week.

We were also blessed to finally attend a community group at our new church here in Raleigh. Community is something we experienced with our "family" back in Kentucky for the past two years. I say "family" because while they are not blood related, they are nothing short of true, authentic family members to us. It is so important as believers, that we surround ourselves with brothers and sisters in Christ to fellowship with one another and just live life out alongside each other.

I am constantly looking for God in all of the little things in life. This community group was no different. There was a firefighter (hello, my research for the past 3 years is ALL about the firefighter), someone who just started working at the same place as my husband, someone who has family ties to our small, little rural hometown (I mean what are the odds...), and the leader of the program that I am most interested in volunteering and doing missions with here. I don't believe in coincidences as God is control of every single action, so WOW! He really did prepare this place and this group for us.

Anyways, all of that to say, hope you had a great week too!!! Below are some pins showing one of my (now) favorite trends. In the past, the fit of the wide leg, flare pants were too baggy and bulky, leaving women with no waistline or curves. This spring, palazzo pants seem to be everywhere! They have a new fitted waist band that gives you curves and is slimmer through the thigh. Here are some of my favorites from Pinterest!

Can't wait to share with you next week, my tips for wearing Palazzo Pants!

Favorite Pins Friday: The Overall Trend

                                                       Source

TGIF!

I'm definitely one to follow all of the latest fashion trends but I wouldn't say I'm an early adopter for all of them. This new overall trend is taking me back to my childhood days on the farm. Unfortunately, these aren't quite the same fit or style as I wore back then.

I love this look, and I think you have to pair these long overalls with heels in order to make them look chic and pulled together. But practically, how much wear are you going to get out of these? A date night or weekend look would work but for everyday wear to the office or work? I don't think so!

I love this chic look paired with a pop of red for winter.

I think the overall trend may be more practical for spring/summer with shorts but I'm not sure I'm a big fan.

Also, do you see a trend here with striped tees?

These have a very laid back look for a lazy day at the beach or a stroll through town.

These are one of my favorite pairs of short overalls, they just need to be about 3 inches longer! They are the most modest pair I have seen.

So what do you think of this new trend? Will you be an early adopter or is this an absolute no for you?

I guess you can stay tuned to see if I decide to give this trend a spin.
