Favorite Pins Friday: Summer Fashion Edition

Happy Friday Ya'll!!!
Today I'm sharing some of my favorite fashion pins for Summer:

(no source)

This summer I'm loving the new trends, especially the sheer, lightweight kimono layering trend. It makes a summer outfit feel polished and put together. Crochet lace shorts are also a big trend, as well as wide leg jeans. White is also everywhere!
Bring on the beach, pool, & sunshine!!!

Jazzy June Style Challenge

A couple of weeks ago or so, the creative part of my brain started spinning and I decided to create my very own, very first, personalized style challenge. If you are part of the Instagram community and have ever posted a photo with the hashtags #ootd or #wiw then you are aware of the many style challenges out there. There is the #styleme____ (fill in the blank for whatever month it is), the #pinneditandidit/#pinspiration challenges, and the recent Marvelous May Style Challenge, that Curvy Girl on the Run created for this past month.
While I have enjoyed participating in all of these challenges, by the second week my busy lifestyle, work environment (lab research assistant), and lack of having the "perfect" clothes for that day's inspiration keep me from fully participating. So I decided to create my own style challenge for myself (and anyone else who wants to join in, of course) based upon looks I knew I could already create within my closet. Some of these inspirations are still a stretch for me and my closet, but I am hoping to think "outside the box." While I won't be wearing most of these on the actual day (again, lab assistant....think sweaty, dirty, protective apparel testing), I will be doing an outfit post or layout for each theme.
This challenge is first and foremost, for me. To explore my closet further and take notice of what is already there. I don't plan on doing any shopping during this challenge but I'm not putting any restrictions on myself. For example, I left every pair of sandals to my name back in Kentucky, except for the oh so flattering Rainbow flip flops (now won't those look great with a flashy outfit)! As I see gaps in my summer wardrobe, I may make bargain purchases as needed (or wanted ;).
If you want to join in, that would make me oh so happy, but if not, I completely understand! Maybe this will inspire you for a couple of days or the whole month. Maybe this will encourage you to make your own personalized style challenge. Either way, I hope the photo alone brightens your day!

Trend Spin Linkup: BOLD

Jumpsuit:{Versona Accessories} Necklace: {Accessorize} Flats: {Cato Fashions}
Today I am linking up with Walking in Memphis in High Heels & The Fashion Canvas to showcase a Bold outfit.
I found this jumpsuit about a month ago while doing some stress relief shopping at Versona Accessories and new I had to try it on. I'm still getting used to the fit and wish it had a built in belt, but it is by far like wearing your pajamas all day! I love that you can dress it up or down regardless of the occasion. Whether it's date night or a pool day, this jumpsuit "suits" (pun intended) just about anything on your activity list.
I picked up this gold rope necklace on my way home from England in April at a little boutique in the airport. The cutout black and gray flats were a score at Cato Fashions for just $10!!!

What do you think of the jumpsuit trend? I'm looking to add a more fitted, polished one to my wardrobe this summer or fall.

Birchbox #2: May 2014

My May Birchbox was waiting on me last week when I returned from my short trip back home to Kentucky! It was a wonderful mail day (including a fabulous maxi dress I can't wait to share with you soon)!
I love the cute packaging and fun patterns that line the boxes. I'm thinking of keeping them to store and organize different samples and beauty items. They would also be cute packaging for gifts as well.

This box included two hair care products: Beauty Protector Shampoo and Conditioner. These are great sample size bottle to take on short trips home or for school. I will probably save these up for our next trip. I haven't tried them out just yet.

This LAQA & Co. Sheer Lip Pencil is fabulous! It is silk smooth on my lips and is a good sheer color. I'm not a huge fan of the peach tone on me but it's fairly sheer and not super noticeable.

This full-size Supergoop! facial sunscreen cream went straight into my purse for days when I catch myself outside unexpectedly. It will be great for afternoons at the park walking the dog or evenings watching the hubs play softball. I also plan to throw this in my beach/pool bag.
My lifestyle extra this month was a disappointment for the second time. It was two packets of oral care breath crystals. I got my husband to try one pack...he didn't try the second if that tells you anything. Not really our thing...I'm going to try to request not to receive these "extras."

Another fun component of this month's box was a coupon for $25 off for Kate Spade Saturday. Unfortunately I'm a broke, newlywed graduate student who has for more in her closet than she will ever need so this little beauty will not be put to use. (This is where I exert my will power.)
Overall, I'm pleased with my subscription so far and plan to give it a year before I switch over to any other beauty subscription service. We will see!
What do you think? Have you tried Birchbox? Ipsy? Let me know in the comments!

Style Me May: May 1st-May 16th

The first half of May brought the craziness of finals week, the relief the semester was over (and I passed with flying colors!), and a fun trip back home for my graduation ceremony (for the degree I earned in December). Needless to say, it was a busy first half of the month. Now, I am trying to enjoy the downtime of the evenings and weekends and get back into blogging more intentionally.
Here are my looks from May so far, that I have documented. Some are from the Style Me May challenge by Hilary Rushford, some from the Marvelous May Style Challenge by my sweet Instagram friend, Curvy Girl on the Run, and some are just self-inspired from my own closet!

Recipes Lately...

Since the semester came to an end a week or so ago, I have enjoyed having a little more time to fix dinner during the week. Here are a few of the recipes I've found on Pinterest and made lately...

Easy Pull Apart Pizza Bread

This recipe was quick and easy and would be a good recipe to easily include children in making. If you read the website (link above) with the recipe, it suggests you use refrigerated pizza dough, not the biscuit dough. Well, our lovely Wal-Mart only had biscuit dough and like the website says, it really does make a difference. So my suggestion would be don't make it unless you have the pizza dough. I wasn't a fan with the biscuit dough but my hubby thought it was still delicious (or so he said to me anyways ;).

Cheesy Bacon Chicken

One of my favorites that I will definitely be making again! I marinated the chicken breast in Worchestershire sauce overnight and then cooked it in the same pan as I fried up a couple of slices of bacon in. Then covered the chicken with bacon and a slice of mozzarella and broiled on low in the oven until it melted and became bubbly on top. It was delicious!!!

Fried Mozzarella Cheese Balls

You know that one ingredient you always forget after a big grocery run? Even though you planned your meals for the week, made a diligent list, and double checked it as you shopped? Well, I forgot Italian bread crumbs for this recipe so I made do with Panko Japanese bread crumbs and they turned out just fine.

Waffle Grilled Cheese Recipe

So far, I think all of these were a success (minus the biscuit dough) and will definitely make them again.

Happy Birthday Mom & Graduation

Last weekend I got to travel back home to Kentucky for a few short days to celebrate my Masters graduation, my husband's birthday, and Mother's Day! It was a whirlwind of a few days! It was our third (short) trip back home since we moved to Raleigh in January. We are learning to cherish the 2 and 3/4 days we get to be at home with family and friends every couple of months. It was a nice, "You survived your first semester of a Phd and now you can relax a little bit," trip!
Not only did we celebrate graduation and Mother's Day, today is my Mom's birthday too! Unfortunately she usually gets the one-for-all Mother's Day/Birthday gift combo. So Happy Birthday Mom! (I guess a blog shout out will have to do!)

Graduation Day with my Parents

My sweet little brother drove 5 hours round trip to come to my graduation just two days before his big chemistry final (I guess that's a good excuse to procrastinate studying too!). It was so good to see him!

My "New" Family: The In-Laws
It was so nice for all of them to come and support me!

My sweet, sweet Nana & Papaw. Bless their hearts...they sat through a two hour car ride, three hour ceremony, and hour lunch!

Don't let him fool you...this was my bro's idea! But first...#letstakeagraduationselfie

My sweet friend Steph from WhiteCoatWardrobe graduated from PA school the same day!

My friend from grad school...we did it together!

We had a wonderful weekend back just wasn't long enough. Tucker was so excited to see all of his aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents! I think he receives more attention than we do!
Until July 4th!!!
