Monogram Paisley

{Dress, similar, love this and this} {Sandals} {Monogrammed Leather Handbag, gifted} {Tassel Bracelet}

Today I'm participating in the Trend Spin Linkup with Walking in Memphis in High Heels and The Fashion Canvas to share our favorite maxi styles of the summer!

To say I have a lot of clothes would be an understatement and please don't misunderstand me. This is by no means a "brag." I have a lot of guilt sometimes over the sheer amount of tops, pants, and necklaces that I, one person, owns. Clothes are not just something I put on in the morning to get out of the door (although this does happen some days). For me, following new trends, wearing fun colors and patterns, is exciting. And there is no better feeling than rediscovering your own closet.

Since moving to NC last winter, I have missed a lot of my clothes, most of which I forgot I even had. On our last trip home I realized I have tons of cute summer dresses. I immediately chose to bring this fun paisley printed maxi back with me. It has dark purples and oranges, with pops of turquoise, that make it a great transition into fall fashion with a jean jacket or sweater.

While home, my sweet Mom surprised me with this fabulous lime monogrammed bag in the perfect shade of tangerine for summer. It pops perfectly with this dress and I love a monogram! I'm looking forward to rediscovering my closet again on our next trip home. It's like shopping...but for FREE (and who doesn't love that?!)!

Boho Pink

{Dress} {Sandals} {Earrings: Bijoux Boutique)

This is one of my favorite looks of the summer so far. Such a simple outfit, with pretty, feminine details. This dress was another great find from Marshalls for just $25! I love the poppin' pink color. The white bubble earrings were the perfect accessory to bring out the white embroidery along the neck and hemlines. I paired the dress with brown gladiator sandals to continue the semi-boho chic look. This was a super comfy outfit for date night!

July Birchbox: Women's Health Edition

Birchbox is a monthly beauty subscription box ($10/month), for men and women. I just signed up with Birchbox earlier this year and I have to say, this July box is by far my favorite. You can read about my other boxes here and here. Up until now, my boxes were starting to look the same: eyeliner, perfume sample, shampoo/conditioner sample, and maybe a facial cleanser. I was considering cancelling my subscription but this box has convinced me to try it for a little longer.

In this box:

1. Balance Me Wonder Eye Cream - This is just a sample and the full-size bottle would be $38. An eye cream is not something I have in my beauty regimen currently, and I definitely couldn't justify the full-size price. But, it will be fun to try and maybe help perk up my tired grad student eyes!

2. Coastal Scents Revealed 2 Eye Shadow Pallette - I love the colors in this palette. All four of them are a soft neutral shade, which is what I use most often. This item is my favorite in the box and my first eye shadow I have received through Birchbox. The full-size version of this palette is $34, making it similar in price to Urban Decay shadow palettes.

3. Real Chemistry Luminous 3-Minute Peel - I have never entered into the facial peel territory so this will take some courage. The anxiety of what it might do to my skin probably means this is the last product I will try from the box. The full-size of this product is $48 so it must work wonders! We will see!

4. Whish Shave Crave Shaving Cream in Acai Grapefruit - A shaving cream that cost $20 for a full bottle must be heaven right?! It better be! I'm excited to try this one out...

5. 100% Pure Gingerade Shower Gel - These little travel size packets are one reason I love Birchbox. This is probably not a product I would ever purchase but it makes my traveling life so much easier and takes the guess work out of it. I just throw these in my makeup bag and go!

This box also included an exclusive subscription to Women's Health magazine for just $9.99. I won't be signing up but it's a nice discount for those who like to receive magazines. I especially liked the Power Up Challenge booklet with 12 easy ways to improve your health like getting more sleep, keeping a workout log, parting your hair differently, etc. to feel more beautiful and rested.

What do you think of my July box? Have you given Birchbox a try? Let me know in the comments!

Lace Shorts

{Top, similar} {Lace Shorts} {Heels, similar} {Necklace, vintage} {Crossbody, similar}
{Bracelets, Bijoux Boutique}

Lace shorts are a popular trend this summer. After ordering a black to white ombre pair that didn't quite make the cut, I found this unique pair at Marshall's for just $13! What a #fabfound?! The gold, floral lace applique was just what I was looking for. The comfy underlay makes them feel like sweats! And because they are a soft, neutral color, I will be getting lots of wear out of these, all year long. I plan to pair them with black tights for the fall and holidays!

Have you tried the lace short trend this summer? What do you think? Let me know in the comments below.

Sunday Rest

Happy Sunday!

I have to admit, the hubs and I did not go to church today. While I could list many excuses (travel, 50 hour work week, exhaustion, etc.) none of them are valid. But sometimes, you just need rest. So today, I'm resting in God's grace. He knows when we need rest and I am thankful for a day to do just that: absolutely nothing! Except make a pie, of course. But trust me, this is the easiest pie/dessert I've ever made.

Peanut Butter Pie is my all time fav! We had one last weekend back home with our family and it left us wanting more. So I whipped this beauty up this morning but not before completely crumbling my first graham cracker crust. I wish you could have seen my delayed reaction where I stood there staring at it for a good 2 minutes, completely in denial! Thankfully, the hubs was kind enough to run to the store for a second (I think he really just wanted some pie)!

I got the recipe online and adapted it using a store bought crust:

-1 graham cracker crust
-1 cup of peanut butter
-1 8oz pkg of cream cheese, softened
-1 cup powdered sugar
-1 8oz pkg whipped topping

1. Blend cream cheese and peanut butter together until combined.
2. Add powdered sugar and blend until smooth.
3. Fold in whipped topping and add to crust.
4. Place in fridge to chill, then serve!

Simple as pie!

Polka Dots & Bows

I'm back! Sorry for the short hiatus from the blog. We took a little mini-vaca back home to Kentucky for the Fourth of July holiday.

Today, I'm sharing a patriotic look that was inspired by Blair Eadie of Atlantic-Pacific fashion blog:

As soon as I saw this look, I knew I could recreate it with pieces in my own closet. And what better time of year to pair navy and red together than for the Fourth of July!

Red, White & Boom

I'm continuing My Fourth Style series today with a polka dot and pearls look. This navy peplum top is the perfect pairing with white denim. Add a red statement necklace and you are immediately ready to watch the fireworks!

I've teamed up with a Jamberry consultant, throughout this series, to show you how I would style this look using their easy to apply and long-lasting nail sheets. The American Flag print is perfect for Independence Day celebrations. Pair it with the stripes to show your patriotism or keep it toned down with polka dots, to match your top!

You can check out these patriotic nail selections, plus lots more here.

What are you plans this holiday weekend? We are headed home, back to Kentucky to spend time with our family. Hope you all enjoy your extra time with family and friends!

Patriotic Stripes

It's the first day of July and almost time to celebrate Independence Day. The fourth is one of my favorite holidays to plan outfits for. I don't know if I just happen to have a lot of red, white and blue hanging in my closet or I just have fun trying to put those colors together; but I enjoy coming up with ways to show my patriotism. This striped top is one I've already paired with white jeans and shorts as well this season, especially for the World Cup. It's a breezy top that beats the heat.

I've also teamed up with a Jamberry consultant to feature a couple of combos that would match this look perfectly!!! I love Jamberry and would encourage you read to more about it here.

I love the nautical anchor print and think it would be great as the accent nail (on the ring fingers only). Pair it with the red polka dot or navy quartrefoil prints to finish off the rest of your nails! To shop this look and other Fourth of July styles, plus many, many more click here! I promise you won't be disappointed with these easy and quick to apply nail decals!! And they last...two weeks or more!

If you love July 4th or are a Jamberry fan, leave me a comment below! Stay tuned for more patriotic looks to come this week!
