Cato Fashion Favorites

Almost 9 months ago my husband and I got married and moved 9 hours away to Raleigh for me to pursue my PhD. Let's just say the shopping options within a mile of our apartment in Raleigh are far more than what you can find within 30 miles of our small hometown in Kentucky. A few years ago however, I discovered there was one southern fashion chain that had really come a long way. If you've been around the blog, you know my love for Versona Accessories, which I discovered here in Raleigh. Turns out, the same company that owns them also owns Cato Fashions, which actually has a location in my hometown in Kentucky.

Cato Fashions, in the past few years, has really stepped up their style. They started following the most recent trends and you absolutely CANNOT beat their prices. Especially their deep discounts. I rarely purchase anything full price, unless I absolutely can't live without it. Usually, the same items will be marked down a week later, and marked down again a few days after that.

As I prepare for our next trip home over Labor Day, I've done a little research on some pieces I'm hoping to find in store, and maybe even at a discount. But the best news? You can shop Cato Fashions online! I'm waiting for the same thing to occur at Versona so I can pre-shop online. But until then, Catos is the next best thing for online browsing.

Here are some of my favorites, and you won't believe the prices! Click the picture or links below and go see for yourself!!!

Fall Transitions: Booties

{Skirt: old, similar} {Top} {Bag} {Booties: old, love these, and these} {Earrings: gifted} {Necklace: vintage, thrifted}

I am craving fall fashion but with temps in the upper 90s and heat indexes breaking 100, that won't be happening anytime soon. While I can't break out my sweaters or scarves just yet, I am trying to start transitioning in ways that won't cause a heat stroke, like booties.

I've had this brown pair for many years and I have to admit, they're not my favorite. There was a time when I almost got rid of them, when booties kind of went out of style. Now, I'm so glad they're back in! I would love to get a tan leather pair for this fall, so we will see. I have a black pair for winter that I can't wait to break out of the back of the closet.

Booties are just one way you can start to transition your look to Fall. I hope to show you more ways to do this throughout the coming weeks. At least until the temps in NC drop enough to throw on a cardigan!

Goin' Out with My Boots On

Dress: {New York & Company, old} Boots: {way, way old, can't even remember where I purchased them} Necklace: {Bijoux Boutique, old} Crossbody: {Francesca's, gifted}

Last night, the hubs and I saw Thomas Rhett, Justin Moore, and THE Miranda Lambert in concert!! It was amazing! I love me some good ole' country music and a sassy country lady, like Miranda Lambert. We had a blast and I can't wait to do it again.

P.S. Not gonna lie, my outfit was totally inspired by Blake Shelton's song (white dress, turquoise necklace, red lips....you get the gist). Corny, I know...but hey, I think it was the perfect look!

Fall Color Trend: Burgandy

{No Source}

Burgandy seems to be everywhere for the upcoming Fall fashion season and I couldn't be more excited! I love any color in the vicinity of the purple hue so this deep wine color is perfect! Some shades sway more towards the red side and others are more purple-y. I can't wait to add a chunky knit in this color to my wardrobe for the fall/winter season! A pair of booties would be great too!

What do you think? Are you on board with this new color trend for Fall?

Whimsical Maxi

{Chambray Button-Up: old, similar} {Multi-Print Skirt: Caralase, sold-out} {Gladiator Sandals: Target, sold out, love these} Bracelet & Earrings: {Cato Fashions} Statement Necklace: {Bijoux Boutique}

Fall seems to be quickly approaching and you know my mixed emotions about that if you read last week's FPF post. I wanted to share some of my absolute favorite outfits of the summer this week on the blog, before it's too late! I've practically lived in these outfits on the weekends for date night and church. For some reason, I kept forgetting to snap some photos in them.

The first one is this absolutely FAB-U-LOUS multi-print maxi skirt I snagged on Groopdealz for under $20 bucks! What a steal! It is sooo comfortable too...like pajama comfortable! I must really love the boutique it came from, Caralase, because I just ordered a vest for Fall through them on Jane.com, as well. {By the way, if you haven't checked out these two discount websites for all things fashion, home d├ęcor, and so much more, you need to do so ASAP. Warning: it's tempting not to purchase with such great deals!!!}

I've paired this skirt with a white tee, this chambray button down, a jean jacket, a jean vest and so much more. The possibilities are endless. I have to say, I'll be really sad to see this one go into storage until next Spring. But, I'm also looking forward to rediscovering my Fall wardrobe.

Stay tuned for more summer fashion favorites this week on the blog!

FPF: Transitions

I don't know about you but Fall seems to be lingering in the air? I'm divided on this issue however. I long for summer to last and find it hard to believe that it has already come to an end (it is painful just to type those words...I promise). Lately, it seems like everywhere I look, on every fashion blog and Instagram post, there seems to be frenzy over fall fashion. Now don't get me wrong, I LOVE Fall Fashion! It's my favorite time of year and my favorite wardrobe. I mean fashion is fall and fall is fashion. But, let's not wish our lives, or our summer looks away just yet.

Here in Raleigh, the temps are going to be scorching well into September. I don't plan on pulling out my chilly weather wardrobe until at least October. So hang with me! I'm planning to share some of my favorite summer outfits on the blog this week, one last time. For now, here are some of my favorite pins this week and yes, it includes everything from summer brights to fall burgandys so enjoy this little (or big) transition:

August Birchbox: It's Here!

My August Birchbox has arrived and I'm in love...again! I've never considered myself a makeup or beauty expert by any means. I think that's why I love this service so much. Birchbox makes it convenient for those of us who aren't up to date on all of the new moisturizers, cleansers, eyeliner tips, or lip creams. I love trying new products that I've never heard of and some of which I really like. And I don't feel guilty if I don't like a product or two...it's only $10 for all 5-6 samples, so oh well. More often than not, however, I find myself loving the product that I was least likely to try or purchase on my own.

And I love this month's theme by the way! I had just finished a bowl of ice cream for dinner before opening this...I'm not kidding!

So here's the scoop (pun intended...I'm hilarious...I know)*
*I hope you are reading my sarcasm here...

1. Neil George Shampoo - $9 Full-Size - This brand was created by Beverly Hills stylists and is supposed to be an antioxidant-rich cleanser for shinier locks...we shall see.

2. Neil George Conditioner - $9 Full Size - This product also contains antioxidants for smoother hair and detangling...something I desperately need.

3. Marcelle BB Cream Golden Glow - $27 Full Size - This is a product I've heard a lot about and is kind of a do-it-all skin care cream from what (little) I understand. I loved the eye cream I received last month so fingers crossed.

4. ModelCo Shimmer Bronzer - $22 Full Size - So lately Birchbox has been allowing its subscribers to choose one product (out of three or four) in each box. I somehow missed the email after seeing the choices and knowing I had to have the bronzer...so thanks Birchbox...you read my mind. I am always on the lookout for a good bronzer, especially as we go into the chillier months. A bronzer is a great way to keep a shimmering glow in the cooler months. I'm excited to give this one a try.

5. Catherine Malandrino Style de Paris Fragrance - $110 Full Size - Excited to try this new scent from this amazing designer, especially because I would never pay that much for perfume in real life! I'm not really  perfume gal. The couple of perfumes I do own are either from my husband or my brother (yes, my brother bought me perfume for Christmas...not sure what he's trying to tell me). It's not something I really want to spend my money on so I love that I get a new sample of perfume every couple of months which is perfect. I still have samples that aren't empty yet.

Overall, I'm more than pleased, AGAIN, with my Birchbox this month. Here's to finishing out the summer strong and I can't wait to see what beauty trinkets show up in my boxes this fall!

What I Wore Wednesday: Target Kimono

{Lace Trim Kimono: Target, not online} {Distressed Denim: NY&CO, old} {Racerback Tank: Marshall's, old} {Gladiator Sandals: Target, sold out in cognac} {Bracelet: Bijoux Boutique, old}

It's my second post in my What I Wore Wednesday series. You can check out the first post here! I wore this outfit to a church function Saturday night but I have also worn a modification of it to work/school.

A couple of weeks ago, I took off on a weekday. Why you might ask? Oh, I had just logged 55+ hours the week before including doing research on campus on a Saturday! I busted my butt for a month on some pretty sweaty, physical labor-filled testing (it's literally called sweating manikin testing...but the manikin's not the only one sweating!). I decided I needed a pool day but if you read my last Target post you know that didn't go as planned!

Instead, I "browsed" Target and came home with three new pieces, including this fabulous kimono. I had purchased a long, sleeveless overlay at Marshall's earlier in the summer featured here. I've had a hard time pairing it with more casual items though. So when I saw this more practical beauty hanging on the sale rack I snatched it up quickly and then to my dismay realized it was an XS! While I have a "few" items in my closet which are XS-S (and by a few, I mean I can count them on one hand), I wasn't sure this kimono would work for me. They're supposed to be oversized and flowy. Well, I whipped that thing over my shoulders and what do you know? That's an XS in the photos above so there's your first lesson in kimonos: they run big (I'm normally a Medium in tops).

I've already worn this kimono a few times with different tops underneath. For work/school I paired it with a simple mint t-shirt from The Gap. I also plan to throw it over a dress or two this fall!

What about you? Have you tried the kimono/overlay trend? What do you think?
