Trend Spin Linkup: Summer Palazzo Pants + Tassels

Palazzo Pants: {Versona} Top: {Marshalls} Sandals: {Target} Monogrammed Tote: {gifted} Necklace: {Bijoux Boutique} Tassel Bracelet: {Versona}

This is my favorite summer outfit! It just screams summer to me! I wore this look to brunch with friends this past weekend at a great café in downtown Raleigh, Tupelo Honey. My long lost bestie from college was in town for a wedding so we met up for the first time in literally years! It was great and so much fun to catch up!!!

If you haven't tried the palazzo pant trend yet, you definitely should! Start with solid colors or neutral patterns if you're feeling a little hesitant. I promise you won't regret it, especially the part where it feels like you're wearing pajamas all day!

Life Lately

It's been awhile since I did a Life Lately recap:

Happy Father's Day to my Dad! I so wish I could have been home to celebrate with him and my family.

Happy Father's Day to the hubs for being the best fur Poppa around!

The hubs' Father's Day treats included Duck Donuts & a trip to Bass Pro Shop. These donuts were #thebomb!

My "National Wear Your Lilly Day" Look

Snagged two new pairs of shorts at Old Navy last weekend for 50% off ($12 each). They were much needed for the 100 degree heat wave we had in NC the past two weeks.

A much needed late afternoon by the pool earlier last week.

More therapy...this time in the form of "retail therapy." Can you tell getting a PhD is stressful?! Haha! Snagged all four pairs for $15/each during the BOGO sale!

Friday night date to Petco with Tucker! He's always down for a selfie...yeah right!

Back out for dinner...not a great quality pic but I love this man so much!!!

Saturday brunch with a long lost bestie is the best!!! Oh, and hair days...those are the best days too!

First glimpse of a patriotic look coming to the blog soon...my Sunday Style yesterday!

That's our Life Lately!

Pop of Pink

Tunic: {Lularoe} Denim: {JCP, old} Necklace: {Bijoux Boutique} Crossbody: {Bijoux Boutique} Sandals: {Target}

A couple of weeks ago, one of my new Insta-friends here in Raleigh invited me over to a Lularoe pop-up boutique. I'll be honest, I didn't know anything about the brand or company but I am now in love! The consultant was so nice, knowledgeable, and fun! It was like shopping with all of your best friends even though I only new my friend who was hosting. I wanted to buy IT ALL but I settled on two tunics: this bright yellow and a more conservative black stripe to get more mileage out of year round. The material is like heaven and the fit is super comfy. I needed to add some yellow to my closet so this was the perfect way to do so, especially for summer.

I paired it with neon pink accessories from Bijoux Boutique, my online jewelry boutique. The tassel fringe necklace is my favorite item of the season! These pops of pink look great with the yellow tunic and white denim!!

4th of July Decor

I'm back with another deco mesh wreath and holiday garland! This time it's for 4th of July!

I always peruse the Dollar Tree décor aisles as soon as the new seasonal items come out to get the best items before they're picked over. I grabbed the following supplies:

-2 mini rolls of red deco mesh
-1 mini roll of blue deco mesh
-1 mini roll of white deco mesh
-heart sign
-2 pack of bows
-garland
-straws
-cupcake liners
-start shaped plate
-red/white/blue designed plates

For the wreath:
I used the deco mesh rolls, along with inspiration from Pinterest, to make the red, white, and blue themed wreath. I used a medium wire wreath form from Walmart as the base. In hindsight, I wish I had gotten two rolls of each deco mesh color as I didn't have quite enough to make it as full as I would like. I started with the white around the inside, then the red, followed by the blue along the edge. I definitely needed more blue to make it fuller around the edges and more white so it wasn't so opaque in the center. But, for a few dollars, I achieved what I was looking for. I added the heart sign to the center, on the door hanger, and attached one of the bows. I then went back and picked up a wire garland to give a little more detail.

For the garland:

I started by taping the store bought garland to the entertainment center and added the second bow to the center.

This was super simple, easy, and quick! But, it was a little plain. So I took out my holiday scrapbook paper pack and cut a few triangles out of each theme. I strung some bakers twine through the top and voila! Still simple but extra cute!

A little trick I've started for organizing these holiday items: at the end of each holiday, I fold up the banners and garland, along with any other small décor items, and place them in a gallon size ziplock bag. I label them for the holiday and place them all in the same bin for easy pull out the next year. The wreaths are another story and unfortunately, for my husband's sake, I just can't stop! I've all but covered every inch of wall space in our outdoor storage closet. Next stop: the indoor storage closet :)

How do you decorate for the 4th of July? I would love to see!

National Wear Your Lilly Day

Dress: {Lilly Pulitzer, old} Shoes: {Payless, old} Purse: {Gifted} Necklace: {Accessory Concierge} Bracelet: {Bijoux Boutique}

This past Sunday was "National Wear Your Lilly Day!" so I pulled out my one and only Lilly item for church. I absolutely LOVE this dress! The Lilly print, the silhouette, and fit are perfection for spring and summer. I found this dress in Atlanta a few years back at Bloomingdale's. I was on a college organized trip and we were touring the department store. We were given a discount to use so I snagged this beauty, which was already on clearance, for less than $100 which was a great deal! But the price point also explains why this is my only Lilly item...

Did you join in with your Lilly items? If so, I would love to see! Leave the link in the comments below!

Friday Favorites

It's Friday so I'm sharing my favorites from the past week:

1. Orange is the New Black!

Season 3 early streamed last Thursday night while we were babysitting for our friends. We got home about midnight and I may or may not have stayed up until 3am watching the first few episodes. I mean, it's not like I've been waiting a whole year for this new season after all! I've been working crazy hours at school the past few weeks so I took Friday off. I spent the day binge watching the rest of the entire season in one day!!! I know...let the Netflix shaming begin. But, I did prep for teaching my class this fall the majority of the time I was watching so, at least I was semi-productive.

2. Pool Dayzzz

Saturday, I spent the majority of the day right here. And it was glorious!!

3. Jurassic Park at the Drive-In

We drove a little ways outside of Raleigh to the "country" to check out the drive-in. We saw Jurassic World and it was great!

The only time Tucker actually spent laying down and being still was during the split second I took this photo. Note to self: next time go to an air conditioned, non-mosquito infested, dog free movie theater to enjoy the movie. Yeah, so maybe not a huge favorite!

4. Entertaining Friends

Our friends have had us over to their apartment at least a dozen times for dinner. We finally returned the favor this week! We don't have a formal dining area in our 700 sq. ft. apartment but we made do with the kitchen island, bar stools, and patio furniture. It was fun to finally have them over to see our place and Tucker had fun "playing" with their daughter.

5. And, maybe my biggest favorite of all, the research article I started writing this time last year, submitted earlier this winter, and went through two rounds of formal edits was FINALLY accepted for publication this week!! PTL!! Chapter Two of my dissertation....check! And so this is how I felt...for about all of 10 minutes....but I'll take it!

Happy Friday! What do you have planned for the weekend?!

WIWW on a Thursday?

Oh hey there friends! Blog slacker here...yes, I know...it's Thursday, not What I Wore Wednesday, but WIWW sounds better than WIWT?

To say the past few weeks of #phdlife have been stressful would be a huge understatement. The intense journey that is obtaining a doctorate does not sit well with my type A, perfectionist, "gotta fix everything right this second" personality.

I've had little time to even think about writing a blog post and the last thing I want to do is open my laptop back up! So now that you've heard my long list of excuses, I'm back to posting which is a HUGE form of stress relief for me so I'm trying to make time for it...for my own mental sanity!
