What's Up Wednesday

Happy Hump Day Ya'll!

Today I'm participating in my first What's Up Wednesday linkup! This is a monthly series hosted by Shay, Sheaffer, and Mel the last Wednesday of each month.

So, let's dive right in!

What we're eating this week...
The hubs has started a diet new healthy lifestyle so the pizzas, carbs, and fried chicken are out! I'm also going on week 3 of no soft drinks. I've given them up before but got hooked right back. Hoping to kick the habit this time...for me, it has to be cold turkey! One sip and I'm back on the caffeine train!

Instead, I've been cooking lean proteins and my favorite are steak tips in the cast iron skillet. So quick, easy, and absolutely delicious! I love the way I feel when I eat better and work out harder but not gonna lie, I would kill for some warm, out of the oven chocolate chip cookies #yummy

What I'm reminiscing about...
I'm definitely reminiscing about all of my childhood beach vacations. For fourteen years, my family traveled to Destin, Florida every fall break and oh, how I miss the memories. My Mom, Dad, brother and I, along with our family friends went every year together (8 years for me) and always had the best time. Since we kids graduated and went off to college we haven't had a vacation all together since (7 years!) but my Mom, Janet, Clay (my brother), and Colin (might as well be my second brother) are vacationing in Gulf Shores this week (without me...insert all the crying face emojis). This vacation is also bittersweet because Mark (Colin's father) passed away last fall. While we will never have another vacation like those days when it was just the seven of us, those memories will last me a lifetime!

And on to more light, and fluffy fun things...also, I'm headed to the beach in t-minus 7 days!

What I'm loving...

Pool Dayzzz

Finally getting my ring back after losing a little stone & my gorgeous manicure thanks to my sweet Momma!

What we've been up to...

On Saturday, we went and played mini golf!

It was soo much fun!

No surprise, I didn't win because this collegiate golf player always has to assert his mad golf skills...

What I'm dreading...
Taking my very last class of my collegiate career. You would think I'd be glad to get it over with, and  believe me, I AM!! But, I just don't wanna! I mean, I'm going on my 8th straight year of college for goodness sakes....someone please put me out of my misery soon! Honestly, I love everything about grad school except for the classes at this point. ONE MORE CLASS!

What I'm working on...
1. My dissertation
2. Preparing for teaching a course this fall
3. My dissertation
4. Did I mention...my dissertation???

What I'm excited about...
The beach with my absolute best bestie in all the land in t-minus 7 DAYS!!! I haven't seen my bestie, partner in crime, MOH since our wedding over a year and a half ago. Wilmington, NC will never be the same!!

And while I'm not exactly recharged for a new semester and my 8th year of college, I've always enjoyed the beginning of a new school year and the clean slate it brings. Since I was a little girl, I love the new school supplies, new outfits, new possibilities. It also means my FAV time of year is right around the corner...bring on fall and pumpkin patches, decorating for the holidays, Christmas cards, and lots of time with family and friends!

What I'm watching/reading...
Thanks to Shay's book reviews I've been enjoying Liane Moriarty's books by the pool this summer. I've read "My Husband's Secret" and "Big Little Lies." I'm currently halfway through "The Girl on the Train" and it's great!

And of course, I'm watching all The Real Housewives. I've watched every season in every city since they began (when I was in high school...yikes). They're my guilty pleasure. Currently blogging while watching new episode of RHNYC...in case you were wondering...

What I'm listening to...
Gangsta rap...it's the only thing getting me through those workouts and believe it or not, my dissertation. Also, country because I love it and it reminds me of home.

Life Lately: Kentucky Trip & What I Wore

Sharing details from my life lately. It's been a busy and exciting month!

Attempting to work from home one afternoon. Tucker was motivating me to snuggle and take a nap.

Off to the flea market on a Saturday morning after watching too much Flea Market Flip on HGTV.

Airport ready for a research trip back to Kentucky for school. This striped LulaRoe Irma tunic is the perfect piece to travel in when paired with leggings, comfy sandals, and a long tassel necklace to pull it all together.

Airport Ready

After a couple of days of work-related tasks, I spent the rest of the week/weekend at home with my family. Mom and I checked out TJ Maxx after dinner one night. I was in love with all three of these pieces but, unfortunately, all 3 including the maxi dress were way too short! #tallgirlprobs

I did find the perfect cut offs for summer at Old Navy and scored them for 50% off!

Spotted this fabulous cover up at Marshall's a couple of weeks ago and had to have it for my upcoming trip! Mom and I were out having a fun girls day on Saturday. We had our nails done, stopped at Cato Fashions, and also stopped in the local Hallmark store that had all summer merchandise marked 75% off! This beautiful blue tunic was just $10!

And these beach bags, originally $20 each, were just $5! I grabbed one for me and my friend for the beach!

At Catos, I found these palazzo pants (I know what you're thinking...another pair of palazzo pants...believe me, I understand I have an addiction and I'm okay with it) for $7 on clearance and the tunic for just $9!!!

Perfect colors for fall!

And these hats ya'll!!! I'm not a big hat person but these were way too cute and affordable to pass up!

Scored them both from Cato Fashions for $7 each! One for the beach and one for fall!

And also, these pairs of heels were $5!!! That's right! $5 a piece! They are perfect for teaching this fall!

Sunday Style

I switched out the ruffle back sleeveless tank for this quarter sleeve peach tunic and bright statement necklace from my shop, Bijoux Boutique.

How gorgeous are the colors and details in this necklace?! This picture doesn't do it justice!!

On Sunday afternoon, I went to our nephew's 7th birthday party.  It was lots of fun even though the weather didn't cooperate and meant for a speedy party.

He had a "Dukes of Hazzard" themed party. I found this personalized Dukes of Hazzard t-shirt from a small shop in Canada. Thankfully it arrived in the knick of time for the party.

I also found the cutest little polo outfit at Marshall's. My husband has to make me stop because I love to buy for our nephews and niece. We don't have children of our own so besides them and our friends' kids, I don't get any opportunities to peruse the cute kids aisles.

I also snagged him a lunchbox and this cute water bottle at Marshall's. I used my Mom's Cricut to cut his name out and place on the bottle.

I took the professor I was traveling with, who had never been to Kentucky before, to a local Lexington chocolate shop. They had these cute career themed chocolate sets for just $5! I picked the Policeman theme out for our nephew because he loves to dress up like one. How cute is that little baton and badge! Then I had to resist the urge to eat it myself!

I was so glad to get back to my boys!! I think this little guy missed me...and needs a haircut!

And my hubs is so sweet! I may have mentioned to him that I had my eye on this tote at Target for the fall semester. I needed something bigger than what I currently have since I will be toting stuff (pun intended) back and forth between two campuses. I love that these totes are reversible. The bright yellow is perfect for spring/summer and the houndstooth is great for fall/winter.

It's finally official! I completed all of my paperwork and got my official id card on campus. I will be teaching at Meredith College (I know...Meredith at Meredith College) this fall! I'm so excited!!!

Well, that's life lately! I had so much fun spending time with my family while I was at home. I haven't had that kind of quality time with them since before the hubs and I got married and it was such a blessing. The bro and I hit the gym, binge watched HBO, and caught a movie. Mom and I got to have a fun girls day with lots of shopping, crafting, and getting our nails done. And of course, my Dad made sure I was stuffed with food 24/7 by always treating me to the best!

Fuchsia + Navy Palazzo Pants

Palazzo Pants: {Cato Fashions} Top: {Marshall's, old} Sandals: {Payless Shoe Source} Necklace: {Bijoux Boutique, old} Bag: {Mango, Spain, old}

Rounding out the last palazzo pant post (for the week :) with what might be my favorite look so far! The neutral navy and bright pop of fuchsia are so fun. I tucked the blouse in to create a waistline and also show off the side ties on the front of the pants. The accent colors in the palazzo pants are fuchsia, gray and white so I grabbed my gray floral statement necklace and favorite gray Mango bag.

I purchased a Mango crossbody bag on my first overseas trip in Paris, France. I went back to Europe a year later to London and bought my bright red handbag, again at Mango. When the hubs and I were in Spain for our honeymoon I had to snag this gray handbag at the Mango store in the local mall. I have carried each of these bags multiple times and they hold up so well at a very affordable price point.

If I haven't convinced you to try out  a pair of palazzo pants by now, I don't know what will! Stay tuned next week for a couple of new styles and a palazzo pant recap!

Palazzo Pants: BRIGHTS

Palazzo Pants: {Cato Fashions} Tunic: {LuLaRoe} Sandals: {Payless Shoe Source} Tassel Necklace: {Cato Fashions}

Ya'll, I'm continuing my series on palazzo pants today with this #fab pair my Mom grabbed for under $10! And she scored the tassel necklace for just $4!!! Can you believe that? The couple of pairs she found on clearance are a size bigger (L) than I normally wear (M) so I want to be careful how I style them, that I give myself some sort of a waistline and don't look like a walking blimp. While I love this tunic worn completely down, I decided to tie it up this time to synch in my waist. Also, this particular pair has slight pleats in the front which can also add volume.

The bright pops of color in the pants pair perfectly with the beaded bright pops of color in the tassel necklace. The bright yellow Irma tunic from LuLaRoe is the perfect combo!

Have I convinced you to join the palazzo pant trend yet?! One more post coming later this week :)
